Cat and Mouse(trap), a house story
Our friend Veronica submitted the first house story via this website. Thank you Veronica. This story is actually a prize winning story that Veronica retold at our 1999-2000 New Year’s Eve party. She won “best story with the house as a central character” for her account of "Marietta the Cat’s Encounter with a Mouse Trap.” Veronica is such a great story teller and actress that we do need to get her on video. Only those of us who know her can picture her acting as Marietta the cat which is, indeed, how she walked home with the prize over five years ago.
"Marietta the Cat’s Encounter with a Mouse Trap,” by Veronica Falcinella
One of my favorite stories still makes me chuckle. It was a warmish day, later afternoon and Jeanie and I were standing in the middle of the great room talking. There was afternoon light filtering in through the second story windows over the "View Room." All of a sudden, we hear the SNAP! of a mouse trap followed by an angry MEROWWWWW from Marietta the cat. We look up to see this gray and white ball of fluff catapulting off the landing at the top of the stairs, her little body visible for brief seconds above the banister. She must have landed about five steps from the bottom as we heard her tumble—thump, thump, thump—toward the bottom. She rolled out onto the floor like the toy from a gumball machine and immediately tumbled into a sitting position and began to groom herself with as much dignity as she could muster. Oh, how we quietly howled with laughter, trying not to embarrass the poor beast further.

Veronica has promised to provide us with an update about herself. In the meantime, she is a proud member of the Open Porches Sisterhood here at this site.
